Whats Happening Now at Mountain Whitewater

The 2007 snowpack is looking to provide some fantastic trips. As of March 30, 2007, the Poudre Basin has a higher snow pack level than the state average. We will be running trips May 15-August 30th so give us a call and we will book you a trip on Colorado's best rafting adventure!

What are our guides are doing in the off-season for 2007?


Alan Blado – Alan is spending his off-season trading stocks and working on websites he has designed including MWD’s home page. He likes to spend spare time snowboarding and traveling. He and his wife Morgan took a trip to Costa Rica to enjoy the surf and sun, as well as go rafting on one of Costa Rica’s most popular rivers, the Rio Pacuare.

Ben Costello – This off-season, Ben has been working as MWD’s river manager. This winter has been Ben’s second full time season as river manager. He spends his spare time skiing, playing with his dog and planning for next falls Grand Canyon trip.

Chris Holland – Chris is attending Colorado State University and is in the second year of his engineering program. He likes to spend time riding his unicycle, mountain boarding and learning to kayak.

Courtney Shook – Courtney is using this off-season to do her internship for Colorado State. She is in Costa Rica working with a start-up rafting outfitter. She is working to help get the company started and enjoying here free time traveling around the country.

Daniela Frum – Daniela has earned her teaching certification to teach Wilderness First Responder courses. She has begun to teach WFR courses around Fort Collins and travels in her spare time. Daniela is also preparing to take her second trip to the Grand Canyon next fall.

Erik Huber – Erik is completing his first full year as an independent insurance salesman for AFLAK. He also spends time snowboarding at Copper Mountain and hiking around the foothills of Fort Collins. Erik will also be participating in the fall Grand Canyon expedition.

Ewan McCain – Ewan works for Vail Resorts as a photographer. Other than taking pictures, Ewan spends his time skiing and daydreaming of the summer on the Poudre River.

Forrest Carr – Forrest has begun his first year at the Colorado School of Mines. He is enjoying making new friends while still being close enough to home to do laundry and visit the family.

Harlie Maahs – Harlie is currently doing his internship with Mountain Whitewater Descents. He hopes to finish by the start of this rafting season. Harlie spends time working at Bennigan’s and modifying his Ruckus scooter.

Ian Butler – Ian works as a manager at Recycled Cycles and does massages on the side. He likes to snowboard and practice kayaking in the pool to pass the time. Ian is another lucky person who will be going to the Grand Canyon in November.

Jack Reed – Jack is another MWD guide who works at Recycled Cycles and as a massage therapist. Jack also spends time playing guitar in his various bands, kayaking in the pool and dong Yoga.

Julianne Koval – Julianne is the third of MWD’s guides who works at Recycled Cycles in the off-season.

Katie Macknight – Katie has spent the off-season skiing in Crested Butte, Colorado. She is working at a hotel and is thoroughly enjoying the life of a ski bum.

Kelly Fernholz – Kelly has continued on the path of becoming a marathon runner and loves to spend time with her new dog.

Matt Troyanek – Matt is once again working for the University of Wyoming, acting as landlord for several properties and selling outdoor gear on the weekends. Matt likes to spend time ice climbing and working on improvements to his raft and frame.

Nate Beckman – Nate works at a local bar called the Trail Head. He is working on his degree from Colorado State and likes to spend any extra time in the mountains skiing.

Patrick O’Connell – Patrick is living and working in Crested Butte, CO. He loves to telemark while he is not working at a hotel in town.

Simon Lawler – Simon is a fifth grade teacher in near by. Simon was lucky enough to draw a Grand Canyon permit for next November and has very graciously asked many of the MWD crew to go on the trip.

Stan Wyllie – Stan used this off-season to open his own business. He is now the proud owner and operator of A Degree Above gas fireplace service. When Stan is not working, he spends time with his girl friend and his dog.

Tim Pollack – Tim will be back at MWD next year baring another ski related injury. We are happy to get Tim back again for his third year as a river guide. Tim lives and works in Summit County, CO and enjoys, you guest it, skiing.
