Join us for this great volunteer event! p>
Join Mountain Whitewater Descents for their annual Cache la Poudre River Clean-up. With help from our co-sponsors Save the Poudre and the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Program, we will clean all along the Poudre trail from Shields Street to Lemay Avenue, possibly further.
Clean-up meets Saturday, May 26, 2012 @ 9am and will last until noon. All you need is gloves, sunscreen & the desire to make a difference in our community. Meet @ Lee Martinez Park in the main parking lot. Any and all volunteers are welcome; please register at the check-in table prior to the cleanup.
New World Sports will provide bike trailers to haul the trash bags off the trail, and Gallegos Sanitation is donating trash & recycling bins for the event.
Please try to carpool or ride bikes to reduce parking congestion and to reduce the event’s carbon footprint. Also, make sure to dress for the weather. We will clean the river rain or shine!!
To say thanks to anyone who volunteers during the event, there will be a volunteer appreciation event held at Mountain Whitewater Descents after the cleanup. The event is going to begin at 12:30pm and will last until around 5:00pm. There will be FREE beer provided by Odell Brewing Company and FREE food provided by Backcountry Provision, Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant and LaPorte Pizza. Other refreshments will also be provided for those who are not of legal drinking age. This event is only open to those who volunteer, so make sure you register at the cleanup before you start.

Over 100 Volunteers Gather to Clean up the Cache la Poudre. p>
Over 100 volunteers gathered on Saturday May 21 to clean up the Poudre River. Volunteers not only filled a 300 yard dumpster, overflowing its capacity but also collected 150 gallons of glass and aluminum recycling! Mountain Whitewater Descents would like to thank our co-sponsors Save the Poudre and City of Fort Collins Natural Areas. The Poudre river cleanup is part of the National River Cleanup through American Rivers.
This is Mountain Whitewater Descents 12th annual river cleanup. We would also like to thank the local companies that helped to make the cleanup such a huge success including New World Sports who gather the collected garabge and took it to the dumps and Gallegos Sanitation for providing us with dumpsters.
With the support of these local sponsors the cleanup was efficient and fun! The river cleanup is about more than just cleaning up the banks, it’s about connecting the community with one of the most valuable resources for Fort Collins. The post party was a great way to celebrate the efforts of everyone. Mountain Whitewater Descents hosted the thank you celebration following the cleanup. Food and Beer was provided by Back Country Provisions, Odell Brewing Co., Rio Grande and Marcos Pizza.
Thanks again to our fantastic sponsors and all of our volunteers for helping to celebrate our City’s treasure, the Cache la Poudre! We hope to see everyone again next year!!

Clean the Poudre 2010 a HUGE success!

Big thanks to all our sponsors and all those who helped with the Poudre River Clean Up on May 2010. 120 volunteers showed up to clean along the banks of the Cache la Poudre River. We filled one 95-gallon recycling bin and one 3-yard trash dumpster to the brim!
Clean the Poudre 2010
Volunteers pitch in as part of the National River Clean Up.
Local citizens are banding together to tackle litter in and along the Cache la Poudre River, as part of the National River Cleanup 2010.
Mountain Whitewater Descents along with New World Sports will conduct a river cleanup with the help of many volunteers on May 22. “Mountain Whitewater Descents is dedicated to protecting the Cache la Poudre because a healthy community starts with a healthy river. Our volunteers are excited to pitch in because a cleaner river is a healthier river,” said Ben Costello, Director of Fun for Mountain Whitewater Descents.
National River Cleanup, sponsored by American rivers, is a series of community-based stream cleanups happening nationwide. This popular annual event raises awareness of the magnitude of trash accumulating in our nation’s waterways. For Mountain Whitewater Descents, sustainability and environmental stewardship are at the core of our business. Mountain Whitewater Descents will be participating along with tens of thousands of volunteers taking part in hundreds of cleanups across the country to remove trash from local rivers and streams.
“The Cache la Poudre is so important to our community that we’ve got to take every opportunity we can to protect it, for us and for future generations. Keeping it clean is one way that citizens can do their part for the river we all love,” said Costello.
The Cache la Poudre River descends eastward from Rocky Mountain National Park through the Poudre Canyon and then continues through Fort Collins. The wild and scenic Poudre River is the host to many activities including whitewater rafting, fishing, and kayaking. In the lower section closer to Fort Collins, the river is also paralleled by paved trails for horseback riding, biking and walking. The Poudre is a focal point for fun, fitness and beauty in Fort Collins!
“It’s thrilling to see so many people across the nation pitching in to protect their local river or favorite steam,” said Rebecca Wodder, president of American Rivers, the organization that sponsors National River Cleanup. “We applaud the work of Mountain Whitewater Descents not just for speaking out for the Poudre River, but for taking action to keep it healthy.”
All are invited to meet at 9am on Saturday May 22, 2010 at Lee Martinez Park in the dirt parking lot on the northeast corner of Cherry Street and N. Mason Street. From there we will clean-up the banks of the Cache la Poudre River along the Poudre trail from Taft Hill Rd. to College Ave. A volunteer appreciation party will follow (sponsored by Back Country Provisions and Odell Brewing)!
